The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not a question of occupation. In the event that the question of the occupation, emerged in 1967 and not 1920. If it were a dispute over the occupation, would have ended in 2000 and had not continued to this day. In the case that it was the occupation, it would be easy to put an end to this conflict through a full Israeli withdrawal and full Palestinian recognition of Israel after the withdrawal. However, withdrawal is not being implemented and there is recognition that the conflict is not about occupation. Get the name of East Jerusalem East Jerusalem and the eastern part of the city of Jerusalem captured by Jordan in the Arab-Israeli war of 1948 and remained until 1967 under the administration Arabic. After the Six-Day War, Israel conquered and annexed the rest of the Jerusalem municipality under the Act of Jerusalem (1980). It includes the Old City and some of the major religious sites (the Holy Sepulcher, Dome of the Rock / Temple Mount and Western Wall).
East Jerusalem can refer broadly to the entire area which remained under Jordanian administration between 1948 and 1967, and was then incorporated into the municipality of Jerusalem (about 70 KMA ), or only to pre-1967 Jordanian municipality, covering in this case only KMA 6.4 . Mount Scopus, which was an Israeli enclave inside Jordanian territory before 1967 and where the Hebrew University, is not considered part of East Jerusalem.
During the period for which remained under Jordanian administration, East Jerusalem lost much of its importance: to cease to be capital and lose their connection with the coast, diminished its role as a commercial center, and even saw its population decline, because much of shops and the administration moved to Amman. However, it maintained its religious importance, as well as its role as regional center.
After the conquest of Israel, the PLO and then the PNA have claimed Jerusalem as the capital of this future Palestinian state. The Declaration of Principles Palestinian-Israeli, signed in Oslo on September 13, 1993, deferred a decision about the status of Jerusalem for the final stages of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The ability of the Palestinian capital in the east of the city was considered by Israel for the first time at Camp David (2000) and in the Taba summit (2001), but these negotiations ended without agreement and that possibility has not returned to regarded by Israel since then.
